baobab pubIn the Limpopo province of South Africa there is one very original tourist attraction - a huge baobab at the Sunland Farm, not far from the Modjadjiskloof city. Supposedly, it is the oldest baobab on the planet – the tree is more than 6000 years old, with a 10 meter diameter of the trunk and a height of 22 meters.

This baobab was definitely not to be missed. In 1990, a couple who bought the farm noticed that the tree already had two huge hollows in it, and when the couple cleared them up, they saw that the space could accomodate many people inside. Thus, the Big Baobab pub was born.

The bar has all the attributes of a traditional British pub - beer, bar stools, music, darts and even a phone. It can accomodate up to 50 people. There is also a wine cellar, and another small outside restaurant next to it. Thanks to the natural ventilation, the temperature inside the tree is a comfortable +22 degrees Celsius. Every year the Big Baobab is visited by approximately 7000 visitors. A tree itself continues to grow as if nothing had happened, it blooms in the spring and serves as a refuge for numerous birds.

There are also bungalows for rent in the area, and you can even have a wedding ceremony by the baobab.
